The suppliers
Scitech Precision Limited
Scitech Precision Ltd. is a spin-out from the STFC which combines expertise in micro-assembly and micro-engineering with extensive insight into the physics behind high power laser science.Manufactures MEMs targets, multi-layer thin foil targets, microdots arrays, cones and shells, foam targets, filters, hohlraums, micro-wire backlighters, pinhole arrays, phase plates and anti-reflection coatings. We have a laser micromachining facility for in-house target production and commercial laser processing using 355nm and 1064nm lasers.
Ludwig Maximilian University
Developing of targets provides a basis for our research on laser-driven particle and photon sources, nanometer thin, Carbon/Oxygen/Hydrogen based composites and other materials, free-standing foils of Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) are some examples. The close interlink between target development, laser experiments and numerical simulation has led to a number of inventions over the past years: The production of free-standing, ultrathin Carbon Nano-Tube foams, composite targets and fully isolated, levitating targets.
Source Labs
SourceLAB is dedicated to providing a quicker access to essential tools for research in laser-plasma interaction at ultra-high intensities as well as in energetic radiation and particle sources. SourceLAB has developed a top-level expertise in ultra-high intensity laser design and laser-plasma interaction experiments.Gas jet systems delivering controlled gas flows, Motorized gas cell designed for the interaction in a stable medium over a distance of several millimeters. high velocity positioner for solid targets, laser filtering and characterization capabilities.
Capable of consulting modelling of beams, targets, mounting, shielding, alignment, debris mitigation and more. Experts in thin film targets, multilayer and DLC amongst others. Curved thin foil targets, limited mass targets, hohlraum, cones, cylinders and hemispherical targets. Experience in alignment and assembly. Access to CNC milling, turning and 3D printing. Two-Photon-Polymerization (2PP) of polymeres with femto second laser pulses, short pulse laser machining, electroplating, photolithography, spin coating.
STFC Central Laser Facility
The Central Laser Facility (CLF) is a partnership between its staff and the large number of members of UK and European universities who use the specialised laser equipment provided to carry out a broad range of experiments in physics, chemistry and biology. The Target Fabrication Group has extensive expertise in the areas of: micro-assembly, thin-Film coating, characterisation of micro-targets and micro-machining. Target Fabrication Group is set up to work closely with the user community to provide advice, delivery and characterisation of high specification micro-targets.
